Welcome to summer! It's been off to a rainy start here in Ottawa, but the weather network has promised higher than normal temperatures and humidity levels. This pregnant lady isn't looking forward to that!
Angelie is finished preschool for the summer. She brought home a lovely little scrapbook they'd been working on all year. She's come a long way since September. She'll return to the same preschool in September for another year, as she won't turn 4 in time to start Junior Kindergarten in 2008.

The preschool kicked off summer with a class picnic in the park. They'd been calling for thundershowers for days leading up to the picnic and so the turnout was rather low, but the rain held off and Angelie had a great time. The school had hired a clown for entertainment after lunch and the kids got a big kick out of that.

We all drove down to Toronto for the weekend of June 20th to participate with Ed's family in the Mississauga Relay for Life to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. (Again, thunderstorms were called for but they held off for us.) It was our second year participating. We personally raised over $470 for the event (thanks to everyone who contributed) and our team raised more than $5000! Angelie enjoyed the activities they'd set up there for the kids, and even liked walking around the track in the dark. She and I retreated to the hotel after the candle lighting ceremony (in memory of lost loved ones and in honour of survivors), and then on Saturday morning when the others crashed at the hotel to catch up on sleep, she and I went shopping.
On Sunday, as a special treat to Angelie on the way home, for being such a well-behaved little girl all weekend, we stopped at the Toronto Zoo.
Waiting for the hippos to come out of their pens:
Angelie was very impressed when the hippos could eat a whole cantaloupe in one bite:

Riding the stone hippo outside the hippo enclosure:

We didn't have time to see the whole thing but Angelie got to see the animals she wanted to see most: elephants, giraffes, zebras, and lions. (She'd also asked to see groundhogs but we didn't see any of those.)

Angelie when she caught me taking her photo (it's hard to get a posed shot these days without the tongue!):

At dinner after the Zoo, Angelie decided to drink her OJ and Daddy's smoothie at the same time:

Now our weekend of very little sleep has caught up to us and we're all battling colds. What's a summer without at least one summer cold?!
Our projects for the summer include decluttering and tidying up our basement (well underway after 3 yard sales and some new shelving units), finishing the renovations of Ed's parents kitchen (nearing completion), and getting Angelie's big girl room ready so we can claim the nursery for the baby come October. We'll be busy but I'm sure we'll squeeze in some fun stuff too.
