Angelie's tests went okay. We'll have the results sometime next week.
She did really well for a little girl who is timid around strangers (especially strange men) since both tests were done by male technicians, and who was hungry because she wasn't allowed any breakfast.
She had an ultrasound of her kidneys. She lay on the table (she looked so small!) and Mommy held her legs still with one hand and cuddled her head and shoulders with the other. It didn't hurt but she wasn't impressed that a strange man was touching her. He was so nice and very gentle with her. She kept saying "all done" and he'd patiently explain that he wasn't and count down how many more times he had to do it.
After the ultrasound we went for lunch. "Angelie what would you like for lunch?"
"Soup!" Soup is her comfort food. She loves soup.
She made friends in the waiting room, where they had a large wooden train for her to 'drive' and climb on. She was pretty disappointed each time a friend left for their own tests.
Angelie's second test was much harder on her. They put her in a tiny little hospital gown (adorable!) and lay her on a table. I was able to read her a book for part of the test, so that distracted her a little. They inserted a catheter and filled her bladder with a radioactive dye. Then they took x-rays of her bladder to see if the fluid backed up into her kidneys, and then watched how she emptied her bladder. She fought that. They told her that she could go home after she peed, and she'd pee a little, but not completely. She did that a few times and then even though she hadn't finished they let us go. She finished her pee as soon as I picked her up. Thankfully there was a towel wrapped around her bottom. Again the two techs (one male and one female) were so kind and gentle with her. They were also impressed at her language skill. "All done, want pants on, go home, see daddy."
After that test we were able to go home. On the way out the door I told her she could have a lollipop once we got to the car, and a nurse heard that and said to Angelie, "Ooh I want a lollipop too, can I come home with you?" Angelie said "No! You stay."
She fell asleep within 10 minutes before we'd gotten back on the Queensway (Hyw 417) and before she'd even finished her lollipop. After I got her home 20 minutes later she slept for another 2 hours.
After yesterday's trauma she was pretty clingy today. As a treat Daddy took us all to McDonald's for lunch today and Angelie got a new puzzle at the toy store.
