November is a busy month for the Kanata branch of the Trach family with three birthays. Happy birthday to Grandma Jane (on the 8th), Great-Nana Angelie (on the 19th), and Auntie Laura (on the 20th).

For Grandma's birthday we thought Angelie might like to pick out a small token herself and give it to Grandma as we would see her that day at lunch and then Grandma would come to watch Angelie's gymnastics lesson (as Grandma ever so smartly takes the day off work every year). So a couple of days before, I suggested to Angelie that maybe she could buy Grandma a new tea cup, or even a box of chocolates. But Angelie had her own idea. After giving it some thought, she came to me and said, "I know what I can buy for Gramma! She really needs earrings!" (Because Grandma had come for a playdate a few weeks earlier without any earrings in.) So we went to the mall, and looked at earrings and Angelie picked out the pair she wanted, and told the cashier that they were "for my Gramma. It's her birfday." I think the cashier (about Grandma age herself) was about to cry. And they weren't tacky plastic kittens or anything like that either; they were very nice tasteful oval-shaped hoops. And Grandma of course loves them!

Great-Nana's birthday was an even bigger event as she hit the big 9-0 this year! So we had family come in from out of town, and as far away as B.C. to celebrate. Angelie did wonderfully around all the strange people she met over the course of the weekend, despite being sick with a fever for most of it. What a trouper. She loved having "two new cousins" to play with, though there was a good 8 - 10 year age gap there.

While Auntie Laura was here this month, the two of them sat down for a brainstorming session to design Angelie's Christmas gift. Auntie Laura sews beautifully and asked Angelie if she'd like a new coat or a dress or a doll for Christmas, and Angelie said she'd like a doll. So they sat down together to design it. Notice how similar their hair colour is.

I used to ask Angelie in the morning, "How many ponytails do you want today, one or two?", but then one day neglected to ask 'one or two'. She said, "three." Now we're up to six. I've refused to go higher. She hasn't backed down and now we're doing six just about every day. Sometimes half-pony tails (piggies). Sometimes six full pony tails. But almost always six.

While we driving somewhere about a week ago Angelie paused while singing Itsy Bitsy Spider to say "Mommy. In my book at home the spider is wearing a coat and shoes and a hat. He should wear his bathing suit in the water spout." Yes Angelie, You're absolutely right.
